BIO 117 Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology C†Δ
4 Quarter Credit Hours

Lecture: 4 Credits
Lecture: 40 clock hours

This course serves as an introduction to the structure and function of the human body, including basic chemical, physical and cellular principles for students in the practical nurse program. The course uses a body systems approach, with emphasis on the interrelationships between form and function at the gross and microscopic levels of organization. Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology includes: basic anatomical and directional terminology; fundamental concepts of physics, chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology and histology. The course covers the anatomy and physiology of the integumentary, muscular, skeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, blood, urinary, reproductive, lymphatic, endocrine, nervous and sensory systems and the fundamental structural and physiological concepts of reproduction, heredity, human development, fluid-electrolyte balance, microbiology, immunology and nutrition.

Prerequisites: Indianapolis campus: None | Ohio and Michigan campuses: COL 099

BIO 253 Anatomy and Physiology I C†Δ
5 Quarter Credit Hours

Lecture: 4 Credits, Lab: 1 Credit
Lecture: 40 clock hours, Lab: 20 clock hours

This course is a detailed study of the structure and function of the human body. This is the first of a two-part series designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology. The course uses a body systems approach, with emphasis on the interrelationships between form and function at the gross and microscopic levels of organization. Anatomy & Physiology I includes: cellular biology, the nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, and urinary systems. Microbiology and pathophysiology will also be discussed, as they relate to the various systems. Laboratory experiences include both hands-on study of anatomical models and simple physiology experiments.

BIO 254 Anatomy and Physiology II C†Δ
3 Quarter Credit Hours

Lecture: 2 Credits, Lab: 1 Credit
Lecture: 20 clock hours, Lab: 20 clock hours

This course is a detailed study of the structure and function of the human body. This is the second of a two-part series designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology. The course uses a body systems approach, with emphasis on the interrelationships between form and function at the gross and microscopic levels of organization. Anatomy & Physiology II includes: the musculoskeletal system, endocrine, the lymphatic system and immunity, digestion and nutrition, reproduction, development and genetics. Microbiology and pathophysiology will also be discussed, as they relate to the various systems. Laboratory experiences include both hands-on study of anatomical models and simple physiology experiments.
